ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Gear Shop is an 80+ year-old automotive parts remanufacturer with a hard-earned reputation in the drivetrain industry. We specialize exclusively in transfer cases — and we're very good at it. This is not a revolving-door sales job. We're looking for someone who wants to build a long-term career, master a specialized product line, and grow with a stable, established company that has been doing this since before most of our competitors existed.
You'll work in a clean, professional indoor environment — no shop floor, no grease. Your job is to be the expert voice our customers rely on when they need the right part the first time. We will train you on everything you need to know about our products. What we can't train is drive, professionalism, and a genuine desire to help customers.
COMPENSATION
Base Pay: $62,000 – $78,000 per year, based on experience
Commission: 8% of the sale price on every Extended Warranty sold — paid monthly in addition to base salary. Commission is earned exclusively on Extended Warranty upsells, not on overall sales volume.
Realistic Total Earnings: $80,000 – $95,000+ for a solid performer
WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Answer inbound sales calls generated by our marketing — there is no cold calling and no prospecting. Every customer who contacts us has already found us and is looking to buy.
• Identify the correct transfer case for each customer's specific vehicle using our proprietary product search software
• Clearly explain the advantages of our remanufactured units over competitors and close the sale
• Present our Extended Warranty program on every eligible sale — this is your primary opportunity to earn commission
• Write up orders using our invoicing software and hand off complete, accurate paperwork to production and shipping
• Track each order from placement through to shipment — you own the process start to finish
• Follow up after the sale to confirm customer satisfaction and build lasting relationships
• Provide accurate technical information to customers both during and after their purchase
• Work with customers to resolve tech calls and warranty claims
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
✓ Minimum 2 years of sales experience — automotive parts or service experience is a strong plus but not required
✓ Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office; comfortable learning new software quickly
✓ Able to absorb and retain technical product information — we'll teach you, but you need to be able to learn
✓ A genuine sense of urgency — customers calling about a broken transfer case need help now, not tomorrow
✓ Strong attention to detail with paperwork and order accuracy
✓ A multitasker who stays organized and calm in a fast-paced environment
✓ Someone who takes ownership — you follow through, you follow up, and you don't let things fall through the cracks
