My normal routine for refreshing walls and ceilings starts with an aggressive sanding to “knock down the highs” which refers to what I call “boogers”; clumps of paint left from previous paintings over time.
The second step is patching any holes and “filling the lows” which refers to dents, nail holes and any other easily noticed imperfections.
Third step is covering with at least two coats of premium paint.
