For sale: 1996 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 with optional 3.4 V6, extended cab, open-sliding rear windows, automatic transmission, air conditioning, stereo cassette, tachometer, “cobalt blue pearl” with factory stripe package and grey cloth interior. This truck is unusual in that it was ordered with manual windows and manual locks, a bench seat, and no fender flares nor chrome trim. The Tacoma also has dealership installed “rhino liner” bed coating.
The truck has a clean title and has been adult and family owned since new. This has never been used as a work vehicle. It has not been modified with any aftermarket parts or used for off-roading. The truck is currently tagged and regularly driven. The only reason for sale is that we got a newer truck and have no further need for this one.
The Tacoma has 170k original miles. Engine oil, transmission fluid and differential fluid, antifreeze, brake fluid, power steering fluid, brake pads, and tires have been replaced on schedule. The timing belt, accessory belts and some brake hard lines have been replaced as well in the past. The maintenance has not been neglected; however, the “check engine light” is on due to a misfire.
Unlike most examples of this vintage, the bumpers, frame, and rocker panels are solid. Underneath there are no holes, no patches, and no rot, just some small spots of normal surface rust. You can hit the frame with a hammer and it will not break through. Because it was ordered without wheel well trim or fender flares there is no rust in those areas either. There are two spots on the tailgate that are starting to bubble with rust. The clearcoat on hood and passenger door and passenger fender has the typical “peel” of this vintage Toyota paint job.
This qualifies for historic tags meaning no emissions checks or purchase inspection, so you can drive it as it is and fix it at up your leisure. Historic plates also mean cheaper registration and insurance rates.
Pickup is located in Glyndon area of historic Reisterstown, just off the end of 795. Feel free to come see it. Asking $5,400 or best offer.
