I made the body of this unique instrument out of Honduran Mahogany. The headstock, fretboard, bridge, and tailpiece are Figured Walnut that shows a subtle rippling effect when the dulcimer is moved. The nut and saddle are bone. The dulcimer has a gloss finish.
The fretboard contacts the top (or soundboard) at only two places, rather than being glued to the top from end to end of the instrument. This allows the sound board to resonate more freely, increasing the volume and enhancing the tone.
There are five strings. The fretboard is chromatic, and the scale length is 25" with 19 frets.
The dulcimer measures 38” long and 9” wide. The body is a whopping 3 1/2” deep. This depth gives this dulcimer bass and volume unheard of in your average dulcimer. The midrange and highs are pretty good too, in my humble opinion.
The dulcimer comes with a bag that has handles and a shoulder strap. I have also provided a piece of fleece to wrap the dulcimer to prevent it from being scratched while inside the bag.
