The guitar is in exceptional condition and has been stored in its case for most of its life. In preparation to advertise for sale the guitar has received a full setup by a highly regarded local luthier in Europe.
This particular example is from the initial limited production run of 50 guitars starting in 2004 as a tribute to the original Gold Leaf Stratocaster that Eric commissioned Fender to make for him in 1996 which he later used throughout the 1997 “Legends” European tour, including filmed performances such as the one at Montreux, and at the Music For Montserrat concert at the Royal Albert Hall on September 15, 1997.
The original guitar was sold on June 24th, 2004 at the Christies charity auction for the Crossroads Centre. The final price was $455,500.
The guitar features all the appointments you would expect from a Clapton signature model including an Alder body, Maple neck/fretboard, Soft-V neck profile and the popular Mid-Boost circuit. What obviously sets this apart from regular production models other than the exclusivity is the stunning 23k Gold Leaf finish, and highly figured Flame Maple neck. An art piece? or perfect gigging guitar...I'll let you decide!
