Manufacturing Quality Technician (Baltimore, MD)

compensation: $50k, plus overtime eligible
employment type: full-time

GAF, one of the largest roofing manufacturers in the US, is seeking a Quality Technician to join our plant in Baltimore, MD. This person would have the opportunity to perform various quality systems and testing activities for the manufacturing operation, including raw material and process fluid testing, quality audits, plant trials, and quality lab maintenance and organization.

The shift for this posiiton would likely be one of the following, Monday through Friday:

1:00 PM - 9:00 PM
2:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Conduct finished product quality audits

Generate data to maintain control charts and statistical reports

Perform routine physical property tests

Communicate with production operators and leaders

Audit operator testing

Make real-time product accept/reject decisions

Perform plant trial run testing

Maintain lab & operator test instrument calibrations and documentation

Complete all activities safely and actively work to reduce the risk of injury in the plant.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Routine testing of manufactured shingles, in-process fluids and critical raw materials as needed.

Execute communication, documentation, investigation, and testing of production line off-quality issues, including accept/reject decisions.

Conduct routine audits of identified production testing activities and finished goods to monitor performance of plant quality systems.

Complete assigned sampling and testing to support Plant Trial Runs.

Conduct and coordinate calibration and maintenance of operator & quality lab testing equipment.

Maintain QA Lab housekeeping.

Utilize and maintain various computer-based programs to store and analyze process and product data for degree of stability and conformance to standards.

Attend and participate in daily crew meetings.

Follow all safety policies and procedures. Actively participate in continuous safety improvement efforts.

Perform other duties as assigned.


TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

• MS Operating Systems

• G-Suite and Microsoft Office

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling the use of office machinery

Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as the telephone

Occasionally operate business machines

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.

Ability to read and concentrate via computer data entry typing and proofreading

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma required with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.

Preferred: College study, up to a BS degree in Science, Computer Science, Math or Engineering and/or 2-5 years of demonstrated experience as a lab technician in a manufactu
