By way of introduction, I am a reading intervention teacher and I tutor students in reading and / or math in grades kindergarten through fourth grades. I have concentrated my tutoring efforts toward the younger student as that is when firm foundations in learning are most important to establish lifelong academic habits and applications.
The locations for tutoring are the Towson and Perry Hall libraries in Baltimore County which have enclosed, designated rooms with a wall mounted dry erase board for additional visual enhancement and hands on practice. Our first meeting is free for approximately 20 to 30 minutes to become acquainted with the child in a relaxed manner and provide an opportunity to ask questions. I supply all learning materials and visual / sensory aids.
I will hand out a parent / guardian questionnaire to be completed and returned at the first 30 or 60 minute tutoring session as well as my business card. In addition, and if available, you have a copy of a report card from the last reporting period this would be helpful and would be returned. This overall profile information is invaluable as it will help to identify all of the strengths, weaknesses and possible gaps pertinent to the student. I also generate a progress report periodically every three months for your review. A periodic newsletter I compose contains recent local and nationwide educational news, surveys and trends. In addition, I test for one of the four learning styles.
The goal going forward is to bring the child up to grade level, and fill in any gaps that may have occurred. In addition, if the child has not had any difficulty in school then the tutoring session can be used to challenge their academic skills even more. Should you have to cancel for any reason or reschedule, a twenty four notice is most appreciated. My fee is competitive and in line with current rates.
