Schedule: This is a contract position, and the hours are totally flexible. The helper could come any time between the hours of 8am and 8pm to do the work, whether they come for 2 hours, 4 hours, or even 8 hours a day. The days of the week are also flexible. They could come 2 days, 4 days, or 5 days a week.
Overall Time Frame: The contract position would probably last through May 1st, with a few breaks here and there while I’m out of town and can’t be here to show them what to do and how to do it. They could start as soon as tomorrow.
Who I’m looking for: Someone with a mechanical inclination preferably. In other words, someone who is used to using a wrench and working on mechanical devices whether that be a bicycle, their vehicle, appliances etc. I’m of course not expecting any past knowledge on wheelchairs or all-terrain vehicles. I will teach this person everything. Perfect for a current or recently graduated student (high school or college) looking to learn and do some hands-on work.
Pay: Start off at $12/hour during training phase. Potential for pay to increase once the person has demonstrated they can be efficient at the tasks on their own.
Description of some example tasks:
- Assist in replacing motor chains on existing wheelchairs (I will teach everything needed to do this)
- Assemble parts of the wheelchairs (for example bolt on joysticks, but no electronics knowledge is required)
- Cutting metal metal pieces to the right length and grinding metal to finish it
- Assist in removing tires, opening up wheelchairs by removing sideguards so that I can work on the inside of them, and then close them back up when my work is done
- Mounting tires to rims
