Title: House Manager & Family Assistant
Employment Type: Part-time (15-20 hours/week)
Proposed Start Date: ASAP
Location: Clarksville, MD 21029
Compensation: $25-35/hour based on experience; Mileage reimbursement will be provided for errands and driving with personal vehicle.
Requirements: Maintain a smoke free environment, pass background check, has reliable transportation, CPR certification preferred (not required), tech-savvy and comfortable using shared household systems (e.g., Skylight calendar, digital lists), Comfortable working around a friendly 10-month-old Australian Labradoodle (approx. 20 lbs).
Proposed Schedule: Flexible hours, approximately 3 days per week (e.g., Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM). Flexibility is appreciated to adjust hours around family schedules, school events, and date-nights or occasional weekend support.
Description: We are an active family of five with three school-aged children (ages 11, 9, and 6) and a friendly Australian Labradoodle puppy. Between school schedules, sports, and work commitments, we’re seeking a dependable and detail-oriented house manager to keep our home organized and running efficiently. Our ideal candidate is proactive, highly organized, and comfortable working independently while following established household systems with consistency and care. Our family values communication, initiative, and a proactive, grounded energy.
Key Responsibilities:
Household Organization & Management
- Maintain organization systems (closets, pantry, storage, toys).
- Reset and tidy rooms daily; prep home for weekly cleaning services.
- Oversee family schedules via Skylight Calendar.
- Conduct seasonal swaps (e.g., clothing, décor, bedding).
- Prepare and coordinate donation drop-offs.
- Coordinate with household vendors and service providers (cleaners, landscapers, contractors).
- Light tidying: load/unload dishwasher, wipe surfaces, vacuum high-traffic areas.
- Organize and reset rooms daily; keep surfaces and counters tidy.
- Manage monthly deep-clean tasks (washing machine cycles, air filters, etc.)
Inventory & Errands
- Track and restock pantry, fridge, toiletries, household supplies.
- Manage and update running household lists for items.
- Run errands for groceries, dry cleaning, returns, gifts, deliveries, etc.
- Coordinate and manage household orders (Amazon, Costco, Target, etc.)
- Purchase chicken feed and other pet staples.
- Laundry: Clothing & Linen Care
- Keep laundry areas tidy and well-stocked with supplies.
- Create and maintain a household laundry system.
- Wash, dry, fold, and organize family laundry (clothing, towels, bedding).
- Light ironing or steam clothing as needed.
Vendor and Property Oversight
- Research, schedule, and supervise household repairs and service providers.
- Gather maintenance quotes as needed.
- Oversee outdoor spaces and seasonal maintenance needs.
- Serve as a primary contact for vendors as needed.
- Assist with occasional support at another family property.
- Oversee property-specific systems (e.g., HVAC, security, etc.)
- Coordinate with cleaners, landscapers, and service providers for all house projects (including upcoming renovation).
- Use leaf blower to clean out driveway/garage as needed.
Family Support & Child Assistance
- Assist with after-school pickups, activity transport, and in the Summer camp drop-offs -using own vehicle with family provided car seats.
- Provide light childcare 1–2 days per week.
- Establish and support in weekly day date or date-night coverage.
- Support with school-related errands, kids’ laundry, and activity prep.
- Encourage wholesome play (board games, outdoor play) and structure during downtime.
- Support in establishing and having kids follow house rules around bedtimes, electronics, and food preferences.
Vehicle Upkeep
- Ensure vehicles are clean and organized.
- Support in removing items left behind in vehicle and returning to proper storage place within home.
Pet Care
- Feed and walk dog; manage care for other pets as needed.
- Schedule vet and grooming appointments for dog.
- Keep pet supplies organized and stocked.
- Purchase chicken feed and restock as needed.
- Administrative & Calendar Support
- Update Skylight family calendar to help keep family on track.
- Communicate proactively about schedule needs.
Deep Cleaning & Special Projects
- Manage special projects such as toy storage, seasonal décor, and gear organization.
- Clean appliances and household systems monthly (washing machine and dishwasher).
- Organize garage, mudroom, and entryways as needed.
- Manage clothing sizing, clothing purchases as needed (e.g., pajamas, socks, etc.), and clothing storage for all children.
