Antique Solid Wood Super Single or Three Quarter Cannonball Rope Bed, 1800's. The wood frame is solid. Sculptural headboard and footboard panels are set between beautifully turned wood posts distinguished by carvings. Some dings, dents and scratches. This is a vintage piece and as such displays a mild level of wear from age. Has been in storage the past 70 years, Therefore, needs to be cleaned and polished. Please excuse the dust and dirt.

HISTORY: Rope beds were invented in the 1600's. and fell out of favor in the mid 1800s with the. invention of spring mattresses. Early beds used hemp or linen rope. You can use manila rope as a substitute for hemp. PLEASE NOTE: Metal brackets were added to the wood posts. Allows the mattress to sit on the brackets rather then using rope.
