For those of you born in the modern times.....A hair receiver was used in the Victorian times to store hair that was pulled out of combs and brushes. It was then used to make a rat/ratt, which was a small bag stuffed with the hair. It was then used to bulk-up the hair styles of the times.
Also, some cultures believe an old tale, that if a bird finds their hair, it will give that person a headache. They then save their hair, and then bury it.
