Up for sale is a 1830 Capped Bust Silver Half Dollar (50 cent piece). This early American silver coin features the classic design by John Reich and was struck at the Philadelphia Mint nearly 200 years ago. It has fantastic, natural slate-gray patina ("original skin") and avoids the harsh scrubbing or chemical dipping seen on many early type coins. Small O/Small Letters Reverse, Solid Very Fine (VF-25 to VF-30), 89.24% silver. The portrait retains crisp lines throughout Liberty's hair, and every letter of "LIBERTY" on the headband is completely sharp and legible. The reverse features excellent detail on the eagle's shield, talons, and arrows. A natural, tight design lock between the lower arrowhead and the and the letter "A" on the reverse beautifully highlights the hand-punched nature of early U.S. Mint dies. $160
