This has been in my family for years & years. A nice platter -- great for a small turkey, a chicken or goose, a roast, vegetables...
I've been told that it's called Pearlware, but I'm not certain. A creamy white background. The edges are feathered blue -- same general look as flow blue pottery has. Also, I've been told that it's mid-1800's -- or maybe a little bit earlier. Measures 15.9" X 12.1". I can find no maker's marks on it, other than a small "14" which has been impressed into the pottery on the bottom.
No cracks. A couple of minor flakes on the edge of the rim on the underside, but not visible from the top and not significant. Standard tiny marks in a couple of places where it rested on its kiln stand while it was being fired. This platter shows its age, but is in very presentable shape. A few small spots here and there, but usual for something this age. The bottom/underside has some discoloration; again, from age and storage. But the visible part when the platter's being used is just fine.
Thanks.
