For sale is a high-quality, hand-painted Eastern Orthodox Icon of St. Demetrios on Horseback. This piece is painted in the Traditional Byzantine-Cretan style, which directly mirrors the iconic 1672 masterpiece by Emmanuel Tzanes. St. Demetrios of Thessaloniki on a single, solid plank of heavy hardwood with no seams or glued joints. 12"w-14"h-1-1/8"d, weighs 4lbs. (extremely heavy, solid, and durable board) Artist/Style: Greek Cretan School. It includes detailed inscriptions in the top corners and a small townscape in the bottom-right corner representing the city of Thessaloniki, natural age-related craquelure (fine hairline cracking in the paint and gesso) across the face, horse, and gold-leaf background. The back is stained dark for moisture protection and has a wire installed for for easy hanging.
