May 20 - June 2, 2010The northernmost Fjord in the Eastfjords is called Borgarfjörður Eystri, where also the small fishing village with the same name is situated on. It is located in a dramatic spot, in between rhyolite peaks and the Dyrfjöll Mountains (1136 m). The area is very famous for stories of elves. Locals even believe that the queen of Icelandic Elves lived in the town. Álfaborg (Elf Rock), a small nature reserve is a tourist highlight of the area until now. Close to the town, you can also find the Islet Hafnarhólmi, a puffin colony with 10,000 pairs. Iceland’s best known artist Jóhannes S Kjarval grew up close to Borgarfjörður Eystri and took much of his inspiration from the area.
There are many hiking trails in the area. We will make a new trail along the seaside. We will also help the locals with all kind of small projects in the local community and will clean the coastline.

Family members do not have to suffer from mental health symptoms to participate. The overall goal of this research is to improve our understanding about the biological causes of these illnesses so that we can develop better treatments to improve and eventually restore the lives of patients who suffer with them.
Participants should not have a serious medical or neurological illness. They also must not be currently abusing drugs or have an extensive history of drug use. All eligible participants will undergo a clinical interview and several lab tests. The lab tests include a urine screen, blood sample, eye movement assessments, cognitive assessment, EEG, and an MRI.
We are located in Catonsville, Maryland. Transportation can be provided if needed. All participants will be compensated for their time.

A lot of the new toys are beanie babies, because I used to collect them and instead of selling them on e-bay, would prefer to give them to children. The beanie babies are all retired ones, but since I just collected them instead of playing with them, I would just purchase them, throw a tag protector on and put them in a Rubbermaid box, so I consider them new because they are in great condition.

TutorChatLive.org is currently recruiting volunteers to tutor online starting when we relaunch the site on January 18, 2010.
The main responsibility is tutoring students who request our free, live help. Our service is open and available to anyone that can access the website. Tutors work from the comfort of their own homes/offices on their computer and chat one-on-one with students in an instant messaging-type program. Tutors have many tools at their disposal such as the ability to link the student with online resources, draw on a virtual whiteboard, and transfer the chat to other available tutors online should they need further assistance.
Tutors can tutor in any subject area for which they have knowledge of, at least at the middle school/high school level. Math/science is of high demand, but not required.
We are very flexible with scheduling but request at minimum that tutors be online for two hours a week and commit to six months of tutoring with our service.
If you are a high school student in need of community service hours, we will gladly provide those.

As a graduate student, I am conducting research on the development of psychological growth in cancer survivors. If you would be so kind to consider completing my questionnaire, you will need to meet the following criteria:
1. You must have been diagnosed with cancer (any type) at the age of 18 or later
2. You must currently be in remission without having had any prior relapses
3. You must have undergone and completed treatment for your cancer within the past ten years (i.e., surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, bone marrow or stem cell transplantation, biological therapy, hormone therapy, and/or immunotherapy).
4. You must not have any current clinical psychiatric diagnosis and must not have any other serious health problems.

So, who are we and why are we making bags? We're the House Of Ruth Maryland, a Baltimore-based non-profit organization whose mission is to end domestic violence. Many of the women and children we serve each year come to the House Of Ruth with extremely limited assets -- no money, no home, and no support network. Sometimes women arrive at our door with a bag of their own, a black plastic garbage bag containing all of their worldly possessions! Yet, they are survivors, having made their way to a safe haven where they can begin the process of healing from domestic violence. From them we learn about the power of human transformation, about the amazing things people can accomplish even in the face of great challenge.
B-More Bags symbolize the care and nurturing that the House Of Ruth Maryland provides to the many victims and survivors of domestic violence who turn to us each year. They are produced entirely by volunteers. Our workshop has the same feel as sewing circles and quilting bees…..a place where people come together and share, creativity, friendship and the joy of community service, all in one small room.
We need volunteers to work with us!!! The B-More Bags workshop is located at the House Of Ruth's Administration Building in Northeast Baltimore (on the Morgan State University campus). Working in the shop is relaxing and productive, all at the same time! We accomplish a lot and still find time to chat, share, and support one another. Our main shop rule is: if you aren’t enjoying what you’re working on at any given moment, you don’t have to finish it….someone else will!
We are seeking experienced sewers, seamstresses, and dress makers. We need volunteers who can sew using a sewing machine and hand sew to embellish and finish bags. Volunteers who want to sew bags at home can do this, after spending a bit of time in the workshop. We are also interested in working with sewing groups who would like to help us with this project; we can bring everything needed to make our bags to your group, or you can come to our workshop.
Workshop sessions are generally scheduled one evening a week (5-8pm), on Saturdays (10am-3pm), and depending on interest, during the daytime on weekdays. Come for the entire session, or for a portion of it, just please come!
