This study is looking for people who have above average blood pressure and are over the age of 21.
This study requires 4 visits (1 ½ hours each) to Harbor Hospital.
-During the first visit, we will determine your eligibility by checking your vital signs, guiding you through a 25 minute breathing exercise and completing a medical interview.
-On the second visit, we will again check your vital signs and have you complete a 25 minute breathing exercise. We will also give your instructions to monitor your blood pressure for 24-hours and collect your urine for 24 hours.
- On the third visit, we will again check your vital signs and have you complete a 25 minute breathing exercise. We will also take a blood sample and have you complete two questionnaires.
Home Practice: You will be asked practice the breathing technique you were taught for 15 minutes a day for a total of 28 days.
Prior to your final visit, you will be asked to once again monitor your blood pressure for 24-hours and collect your urine for 24-hours.
- On the fourth and final visit, you will be asked to do one final breathing exercise and complete two more questionnaires and we will take a sample of your blood.
You will be a part of this study for about 6 weeks.
Study visits are Monday thru Friday.
The purpose of this study is to see how slow paced breathing leads to changes in blood pressure.
Total compensation is $220 if you complete the entire study. All test results are available to you upon request.
