Community Outreach Intern -- Washington, D.C.
Roots to Freedom is a nonprofit organization in Washington, DC. Our mission is to promote and teach the study of African and African Diaspora life history and culture through education and mentorship.
We seek a Community Outreach intern to assist with communications and outreach for the first feature film about Kwanzaa, narrated by Dr. Maya Angelou. Through Kwanzaa, The Black Candle celebrates the Black experience. The film delivers a fresh approach to Kwanzaa and will appeal to all audiences especially the youth. It also includes Chuck D, Dead Prez, Danny Glover and more. The creator of the film is an award winning writer and producer of 500 Years Later.
Specific duties will include researching Kwanzaa facilitators and community organizations, initiating calls and providing information to Kwanzaa facilitators on incorporating the film in upcoming Kwanzaa celebrations, event planning and other administrative duties as assigned. This position requires a minimum commitment of 15 hours per week.
This internship is not unpaid however you will receive minimum compensation of $300; The Black Candle DVD; 500 Years Later DVD; May have the opportunity to attend movie premier and be involved in other special events.
