Someone once asked me if knew what it was like to believe in sharing something so much that if left silent, I would wilt and die. A desire driven so deep that every past experience was whispering this vision in my ear throughout the highs and lows, leading my feet, and echoing in my heart. I paused, and then said no, I hadn’t.
Cameron Blake, age 25 from Baltimore Maryland shared this dream with me. His deep desire is merely to be heard and to make a living off of his passion of writing songs and performing music. This isn’t a plea to be famous, but just purely to be heard and make a career out of his love. For any one who knows the music business, this is no easy feat with over a thousand other artists trying to make it in our cruel world. To the rest of the working class world it may even seem absurd, and not even a real job. However, our jobs are not measured in the value that others bring to them, but the effort and passion we pour into them. If trying to perform music is in vain, then why is it so many people listen to the radio and go to live concerts? We love entertainment, but don’t know how to support the little guy.
Do you believe in the little guy who has something he wants to say? If you can acknowledge dreams and helping them come true, please! Help your neighbor. This is the part where it always gets sticky, because although we might believe in a cause, we usually don’t like taking the effort to follow through. But really, this is all you have to do…
Before any record company considers a band, they look at their page on myspace. If you have a myspace page, or even if you don’t, just by listening to one or two of Cameron Blake’s songs or adding him as a friend would help. If you like the music, spread the word to your co-workers, friends, and family. It doesn’t matter if you have a myspace, just by entering “Cameron Blake” into the music part, you can hear what he has to say. It would be naive of me to think that people will delete or completely ignore this message. But out of love, I have to believe that there is something to be said about pursuing one’s heart call. This is the way that I am supporting that cause. And I know that if you took a few minutes out of your day, you could help someone else make their passion come true too.
