BEWARE of ABUSIVE KENNEL... (Woodbine, MD)

We took our dog to "Circle Kennels in Woodbine, MD" and he was abused. The owner was screaming at us stating how our dog was aggressive and she personally had to take care of him (ugh, the nerve to make the owner work!).

We clearly stated our dog is used to getting his kong when he goes into his crate, if you give him his kong with treats you will have zero issues. This is not a hard task.

This should not have been a problem as their ad's clearly state "personal attention" is given to each dog. When we came back to pick our dog up he had a black eye (I have pictures to prove this) and his toys and kong were NO WHERE to be found. When asked if the owner gave our dog the knog as we specified she screamed "We have about 30 dogs here, we don't have time to play games and cater to each dog". WHAT A SURPRISE FROM THEIR MISLEADING AD.

Bottom Line - We are reporting these people to the BBB, and will NEVER EVER return again.

Happy Mother's Day from the dogs at the Columbiana County Dog Pound! These guys and gals are at the Columbiana County Dog Pound. The Pound is a small, rural animal shelter in eastern Ohio that has very few local adoptions. So these dogs look for homes elsewhere. So many Columbiana dogs have been adopted into loving homes - the dogs below hope that the same will happen for them, too. There are some real sweethearts this week!

Because many Columbiana dogs have been adopted into wonderful homes, the euthanasia rate at the Pound has decreased! Spaying and neutering is included in the adoption fee. While the Pound cannot ship dogs, volunteer drivers may be able to help you out with transport (no promises, and transport is ultimately the responsibility of the adopter, but transport help to Maryland may be possible for approved, screened adopters). The Pound staff are very friendly to both adopters and rescues and can answer any questions you have. Please don't delay - these dogs can't wait to go home!! Vacation? Flea Market? Carnival? Skip the baby turtle. (MD SC FL NYC)

If you're on vacation (or at the flea market or carnival), resist the urge to buy one of those little green baby turtles often sold in tourist areas. They may be little and cute and cheap, but despite what the seller might say, they get BIG. They will grow bigger, and they need more care than you think. And it's illegal in all 50 states to sell a turtle under 4" to the public. Period.

Those little green baby turtles are most often red-eared sliders or cooters. They can grow to be 6-12" for sliders, and 8-14" for cooters. Aquatic turtles need roughly 10 gallons of water per inch of turtle, so a grown slider needs AT LEAST a 55 to 75 gallon aquarium when full grown, plus high-powered canister filters for the water, heat lights, and UVB lights. And, a slider can go from baby to 4" in a year or two, and live 20 years or more. And it's illegal to release a pet slider to the wild, as they could cause problems for native turtles.

Do yourself a favor, skip the baby turtle this summer. If you want to help, if you see baby turtles being SOLD or given as a carnival prize, report it to the regional FDA office (all 50 states). Plus, if in MD, report it to the NRP, 410-356-7060. If in NYC, to the NYC health department and ASPCA.

This is why I've learned to groom my own animals. If your dog is mellow and you are patient, able-bodied and have the time, it's great to do at home. It takes very little time--even for more challenging coats (ex- poodles).

I have 2 poms and an American Eskimo. When they are regularly groomed (once a week) it takes 1/2 hour-45 minutes tops for everyone together (this includes nail clipping). Baths take a little longer, but we only do that once or twice a month. We bond, and it saves us a lot of money. Also, this gives me a chance to quickly discover any health issues (skin problems, tumors, ticks, fleas, etc...). I got the information on how to groom my dogs from breed boards and show dog books. I wouldn't be surprised if there are instructional videos on websites now.

But I'm not knocking groomers or folks who take their dogs to them. Some folks can't groom their own dogs (due to time, disability or the dog being very challenging). And there great groomers out there. It's just VERY important to get to know them well. Interview 4-5 people, ask lots of questions and check references. Never let a stranger touch your dog.

I've heard too many stories--some of which came from an ex-acquaintance who was a groomer.

She too often talked nonchalantly about horrible things that went down...like bleach spilling on the floor and burning pawpads or an eye getting poked. She once bragged about how her boss made a client believe they "did her a favor" when one of their groomers accidently snipped off her dog's declaw (they took the dog to the vet, but STILL...). I found out later this ex-acquaintance was a psycho who screamed at and beat her own dogs.

As long as you have the Frist and last name of the person providing care to your child you can cliam it as a write off, the details to that show though that in turn the provider will then be asked to report income from the parent and pay the very mall fee on there return. Lucky, is a great dog in need of a great home. He is a mix and looks to have both some pit-bull and pug in him. There are no papers but he has been very well taken care of. He does need to be fixed. He gets along great with other dogs (especially bigger ones, all he wants to do is play) and children. He is medium height (comes to the knee) and weighs about 40-50lbs. He seems to do real good in homes with other dogs.
The reason, we cannot keep him is, we do not have the room and our dogs do not like other dogs.

PLEASE do not take your pet to be groomed at "All For The Pet" on B & A Blvd in Severna Park.

Yesterday I took our healthy mini-schnauzer, Libby to new groomer. I explain that she hates having nails clipped and she may want to muzzle her b/c she cries and screams and wiggles a lot.

I pick up Libby from groomer - pay $40, get in car, realize something is wrong with Libby's eye - red and SWOLLEN

-go back in and ask groomer what happened. Groomer replies "She got a little overexcited while I was clipping her nails. Her blood pressure is probably up. She'll be fine". This does NOT set right with me. Look closer and looks like all the tissue that should be behind her eye is smushing out (tmi - sorry)

-run over to vet across street (not our vet, but they take us)

- tell dr. what vet says, she says she has never heard of such a thing as groomer told me.

-examines libby, does a ton of testing to eye, has another vet consult.

-diagnosis- head trauma causing significant bruising to eye - no long term damage, just painful, red and swollen. rx steroids and antibiotic and recheck in 2 days

-BILL: $140

-return to groomer - ask to speak to owner, calmly explain, she looks at libby, says we all go talk to groomer.

-groomer gets EXTREMELY defensive. sticks to her high blood pressure story - says 2 vets are wrong and I am lying.

-owner says she is "sticking by her groomer" and she has "seen these things happen before" I am exaggerating.

- I say that it disturbs me that Libby could have been that upset and struggling so much that her eye would nearly burst our of her socket and that I still agree with my vet. I also express concern that no one notified me ASAP, she says she never noticed.

-I ask what they will do to recify situation? (i.e. refund cost of grooming, vet bills etc...)

-Owner replies, "ABSOLUTLEY nothing, now please leave our store."
- So I leave, but not before screaming out entire story at top of my lungs to any one in store who will listen. They threaten to call police.

I already called my credit card to stop payment & notifed better business bureau and I am looking into what other recourse I have. We also took photos. I am so upset and distraught over this. I don't believe that the groomer purposefully injured her, but something happened there. Even if it did happen as they said it did, it infuriates me that they would have continued with her nails if she were that upset that she either cracked her head on something or strangled herself in the loop. My poor little girl...

This is Ducky, a 5 month old puppy who was used as bait in a dog fighting ring in Baltimore City. How he escaped will forever be a mystery, but he's now in the care of a rescue group. This is what can happen when dogs are given away for free, please keep this in mind when you list your animals!

WHO could subject a pup to such atrocious acts? What will it take for this to end? Dogs like this are not uncommon, and they're becoming more and more frequent to our program. Our last dog survived a gun shot wound to the head! It's not fair for people to make money off of this type of behavior and then dump the dogs so that rescue groups find them and have to beg and plead for donations to try and get these animals back to 'normal'. The US Humane Society is offering rewards of $5000 to anyone who reports dog fighting, so please do your part.
About Ducky:
He is very very sweet, walks nice on a lead, loves kids. He seems to be fine with our dogs, the kitties make him very curious. He is crate trained and also appears housebroken! He listens so well and is very attentive to my voice. Although his eyes are nearly swollen shut, he tries to follow my every move.

His paperwork reads: Multiple bite wounds on face/head including nose. Both pinnae (ears) are greatly inflamed with crust and open wounds. Small amount of purulent material ( pus) on tap that runs out easily. Bilateral scleral hemorrhage( eyes) . he is thin, elevated temperature. SQ LRS given for this. Check temp daily if at or above 103. He is a very nice dog, bath given pre-frontline. Ears are to be warm compressed 2-3 times daily for 1 week.

The wound on his head is swollen to about the size of a golf ball. We have an appt for him at our vets today.

DEFINITELY....................Why not get licensed. It is not difficult to become licensed if you can pass the requirements.

Here are some few things that may be the reason some do not get licensed.

1. SAHM can't pass the federal or state background checks

2. Other residents in the house over 18 (husband, children, relatives, etc.)
can't pass the federal or state background checks

3. Don't want unannounced inspections from the State of Maryland. Why not.
If such good care and proper safety guidelines are being followed, what
would the problem be in someone popping in to check you out.

4. Don't want to pay taxes. Skimming off the government. This my friends
is called TAX EVASION.

SAHM's charge less than licensed providers, on the contrary, check out the rates of both just on todays postings. From what I see, SAHM's charge more
than licensed providers.

I don't believe a license will make a better provider of children, but not wanting to meet the state requirements to become licensed or not willing to become licensed would always be a question in my mind when leaving my child.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: THERE IS DEFINITELY A REASON WHY CERTAIN PEOPLE DO NOT GET LICENSED OR ARE NOT WILLING TO OBTAIN A LICENSE THROUGH THE STATE. HMMMM.

I have one SMALL black harness for sale. It still has the tag attached because it was too small for my G.Grandparents dog and they forgot to take it back. It is adjustable.

I also have a "Toy" harness, collar, leash combo. They are adjustable. My dog weighs about 10 lbs and it is getting a little tight. My grandmother bought it for him at SunFest in Ocean City but it has a tag on it that says UDOGU.com. Here's the website. You might be able to find a better picture. The website labels it as "Toy up to 9 lbs." It also has a matching visor, if you'd like that, too. It is barely used because my dog is completely stupid when it comes to walking on a leash and he makes it quite difficult. It has maybe been used a handful of times.

Last, but not least, is a spiked black collar. I never used it but my friend did for her chihuahua a few years ago. It is for an XS/SM dog.

The black harness is $10, the combo is $25 (website says it's over $30 and that is without the harness), and the spiked collar is $5.

So many unwanted cats, so few adopters. What can we do? If you are reading this ad, I suppose you are considering adopting a cat. Well, I have three "foster" cats rescued by the animal rescue and adoption organization for which I volunteer, Recycled Love. They need loving homes, perhaps with you.

Each is different but all have been brought to great health, are up to date on their tests and shots, and sterilized, which is essential to lessen the number of cats without homes.

Sweetie is a petite dilute calico: most of her very young life was spent as a stray "neighborhood cat," if roaming from house to house begging for food and producing litter after litter of kittens in people's back yards, qualifies her to be called a "neighborhood cat". Finally, with her last litter, a responsible neighbor brought Sweetie and her kittens indoors. The kittens were adopted quickly, as is always the case, so now Sweetie needs to be featured. The loving person, who saved Sweetie from her miserable, vagabond existence and also owns cats, cannot keep keep her because Sweetie does not like other cats. Too much motherhood, perhaps - or perhaps memories of too much competition for food and too much unwanted attention from male cats. Sweetie must be an only cat, but not an only pet, because she can cope with dogs. In return, she will devote her gorgeous self to giving and getting love.

Abbey would also like to be either an only cat or share the house with another quiet cat or dog. She likes other cats, but some sense a vulnerability in her and chase her away from the attention she needs. Abbey is a young, round silver tabby, and also exceptionally beautiful. She would make a fabulous pet for a sweet, caring child - or any sweet, caring person. She was a skinny creature when dumped in a parking lot. Fortunately she was quickly rescued and brought back to great health and beauty. Like Sweetie, she seeks love and is a purring machine!

Lord Jim, a long, tall gray and white gentleman, is okay with everything - cats, dogs, people. He doesn't seek attention, content in a sunny window, but he loves it when offered. He's the quintessential companion cat, a no-trouble boy.

I don't know yet how to put photos on Craigslist, but you can see all three of the deserving creatures (and others available for adoption) by going to Recycled Love's web site: Recycled Love.org. The great thing about adopting cats who are in foster homes is that the foster "parent" gives you accurate information about their personalities and preferences. We want the next home to be forever, so we give the facts. In addition, the small fee we charge, $65.00, is less than half of what you will have to spend on vetting an unvetted "free" cat. We are a WIN/WIN-opportunity adoption organization!
