I could not agree more about ARTSCAPE and the BOPA

Why does everything that starts out being community-oriented slowly become slick, unprincipled and commercialized, catering to interests that do not revolve around immediate, longstanding community concerns. That's what ARTSCAPE has become: ARTS-ESCAPE, a time to promote everything that isn't related to the kinds of longterm artists that help to truly make this city an artistic community. ARTSCAPE has always been a bit touristsy but now it's going over the edge. I'm really saddened by the Baltimore Office of the Promotion of the ARTS (BOPA). They're also the ones responsible for the RIDICULOUS problematic Bromo Seltzer art studio fiasco--endless hoops and credit checks for artists and an all-but rigged competition to get studio space...and the space is too expensive for most artists. We really need to speak out more about this stuff and organize.
